Chronic pain is a widespread issue that affects countless individuals worldwide, limiting their ability to live active and fulfilling lives. It can disrupt daily routines, interfere with professional and personal goals, and often lead to emotional and physical strain. As a non-surgical solution, it targets the root causes of pain, fostering healing and recovery. At Apollo Soft Tissue and Spine in Denver, we specialize in delivering advanced therapies like shockwave therapy to help our patients regain their strength, mobility, and quality of life.

Understanding Chronic Pain

Why Chronic Pain Differs from Acute Injuries

Chronic pain is more than just prolonged discomfort—it is a complex condition that goes beyond the initial cause of injury. While acute pain typically stems from a specific incident, such as a sprain or fracture, and resolves within weeks, chronic pain can persist for months or even years. This type of pain often arises from conditions like arthritis, tendon disorders, or nerve entrapments, and it frequently lacks a clear or immediate cause.

The impact of chronic pain extends beyond physical limitations. It can disrupt sleep patterns, diminish mental health, and hinder social interactions. Unlike acute injuries, which the body is naturally equipped to heal, chronic pain requires specialized interventions to manage and treat effectively.

Common chronic pain conditions include:

Neck pain and headaches: Often stemming from muscle tension or nerve compression.

Foot and ankle issues: Such as plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendonitis.

Lower back pain: A widespread problem that can limit mobility and productivity.

For a detailed explanation of chronic pain, consult WebMD’s guide to chronic pain.

Comparison chart of chronic vs acute pain

The Science Behind Shockwave Therapy

How Shockwave Therapy Works to Reverse Tissue Damage

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a groundbreaking, non-invasive treatment designed to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves that penetrate deep into tissues, promoting cellular regeneration and reducing inflammation.

When administered to the affected area, the shockwaves encourage increased blood flow, break down scar tissue, and trigger the release of growth factors that accelerate healing. These effects make ESWT particularly effective for treating conditions like tendonitis, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and calcifications.

Unlike surgical procedures, ESWT does not require incisions or downtime, making it a safe and convenient option for patients seeking long-term pain relief. The process typically involves multiple sessions, with each treatment lasting 15-30 minutes.

Learn more about how this technology works by exploring Harvard Health’s perspective on ESWT.

Key Benefits of Shockwave Therapy

Transformative Benefits of Shockwave Therapy for Chronic Pain Sufferers

The benefits of shockwave therapy extend far beyond pain relief, offering a range of advantages for individuals struggling with chronic pain:

Pain Reduction and Improved Mobility: Patients often experience significant relief from discomfort and enhanced movement after just a few sessions.

Accelerated Healing and Tissue Regeneration: Shockwave therapy promotes faster recovery by stimulating the production of collagen and repairing damaged tissue.

Breaking Down Scar Tissue and Calcium Build-Up: The acoustic waves help dissolve calcified deposits and reduce adhesions, restoring normal function.

Improved Blood Circulation: Enhanced blood flow to the affected area facilitates oxygen and nutrient delivery, supporting natural healing processes.

Non-Surgical Alternative: Unlike invasive treatments, shockwave therapy provides effective results without lengthy recovery times or potential complications from surgery.

Diverse Applications: From Sports Injuries to Chronic Musculoskeletal Disorders

Shockwave therapy is a versatile treatment that effectively addresses a wide range of conditions, including:

Plantar Fasciitis: Relieves chronic heel pain by targeting inflammation and promoting healing.

Tennis Elbow: Reduces pain and enhances mobility in the elbow joint.

Achilles Tendonitis: Speeds up recovery and alleviates discomfort in the Achilles tendon.

Chronic Neck and Back Pain: Addresses persistent discomfort by improving blood flow and reducing scar tissue.

Have you ever wondered what happens to your body after a chiropractic adjustment? While many people seek chiropractic care for immediate pain relief and improved mobility, there’s a lesser-known aspect of the treatment that often goes unnoticed: the release of toxins.

Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and treating mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Proponents of chiropractic treatment suggest that it can improve overall health by addressing issues in the nervous system. Chiropractic treatments have grown in popularity as more individuals seek alternatives to traditional medical treatments. Regular chiropractic adjustments are not only beneficial for spinal health but are also thought to contribute to overall well-being and a healthy lifestyle.

In this post, we’ll clarify what toxins are released after chiropractic adjustment and what you can realistically expect from your treatment.

The Mechanics of Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, involves applying a quick, sharp force to a joint, usually the spinal vertebrae, to correct alignment and improve the body’s physical function. This technique can release tight muscles and allow the lymphatic system to clear out waste products more effectively, promoting a natural detoxification process.

Chiropractors use various techniques to achieve proper alignment and pain relief. These methods range from gentle pressure and stretching to rapid movements that realign parts of the spine or other joints. Each technique is tailored to the patient’s specific needs to ensure maximum benefits and enhance the healing process. Chiropractic treatments are generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and trained professional. However, it’s important for patients to discuss their full medical history and any concerns they have before undergoing treatment.

Toxins and Their Release

During a chiropractic adjustment, specific pressure is applied to areas of your spine or joints. This is done to correct misalignments and enhance mobility. This adjustment process can trigger toxic release symptoms, which involves the sudden expulsion of accumulated waste products from cells. This release occurs in response to the physical manipulation during the treatment.

The main toxin released during chiropractic treatment is lactic acid. Lactic acid is a byproduct of muscle metabolism, typically accumulating in muscles that are exerted during strenuous activities like exercise. This accumulation can also be mobilized during the forceful adjustments of a chiropractic session, leading to its release into the bloodstream.

Understanding Toxins in the Body

The body accumulates different types of toxins, from inhaled pollutants and food-based toxins to internal waste products generated from normal cellular activities. These substances can affect overall health, especially if they are not efficiently removed from the body.

Toxins can come from various sources, including the environment (like air pollution), lifestyle choices (such as diet and smoking), and even stress, which can lead to the buildup of harmful substances. Regular physical activity, a healthy diet, and sufficient hydration are key to helping the body remove these toxins and promote a prolonged detoxification process.

Toxin Release Mechanisms in Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic adjustments promote movement-induced detoxification. This occurs as the physical manipulation of the spine enhances the flow of bodily fluids such as blood and lymph, which play crucial roles in removing toxins from body tissues. This enhanced circulation helps to flush out metabolic waste that accumulates in muscles and joints.

The biological pathways activated during chiropractic adjustments involve the nervous system, immune system, and various detoxification pathways. Adjustments help to normalize nerve function, which can influence the body’s innate ability to detoxify. Improved nervous system function can enhance the efficiency of the liver and kidneys, organs that are pivotal in filtering and eliminating toxins from the body.

Commonly Reported Toxins Post-Adjustment

Histamine, a compound released during inflammatory responses, is also commonly reported to increase following chiropractic adjustments. This increase can contribute to temporary swelling and pain, which are natural parts of the healing process. Other inflammatory toxins, such as prostaglandins, also play a role in the body’s response to tissue manipulation, helping to repair and protect the body.

There is some discussion in the chiropractic community about adjustments aiding in the detoxification of heavy metals, although evidence is limited. The theory suggests that improving the alignment of the spine and optimizing nervous system function may enhance the body’s natural detoxification processes, potentially aiding in the removal of heavy metals.

Physiological Responses to Toxin Release

The release of toxins can lead to temporary side effects. Chiropractic patients may experience fatigue, headache, or flu-like symptoms. These symptoms are generally mild and short-lived, representing the body’s natural response to the sudden clearance of toxins.

While the immediate aftermath of a chiropractic adjustment might include discomfort or mild symptoms of toxic release, these are often outweighed by the long-term benefits. Regular adjustments can contribute to improved spinal health, enhanced mobility, and better overall wellness.

Evidential Support and Scientific Studies

Research on toxin release post-chiropractic adjustment is still in its early stages, with more studies needed to understand the full scope of effects. Preliminary studies suggest that adjustments may help reduce the levels of certain biochemical markers of inflammation, indicating a potential detoxification effect.

The concept of toxin release following chiropractic adjustments is not without its controversies. Some medical professionals question the validity of toxin release as it is currently understood in the chiropractic field. Critics argue that more rigorous, scientific evidence is needed to substantiate these claims, pointing to the need for further research in this area to clarify how and to what extent toxins are released and managed by the body post-adjustment.

Mitigation and Management Strategies

To support the body’s natural detoxification processes, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes staying hydrated to help flush toxins out through the kidneys, eating a diet rich in antioxidants and fiber to aid in digestion and toxin elimination, and engaging in regular physical activity to boost circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Patients are encouraged to incorporate light exercise, such as walking or yoga, which can help to further promote the release of toxins. Adequate sleep is also important, as it allows the body to repair and regenerate. Additionally, practices like massage therapy and sauna sessions can complement chiropractic care by helping to relax tight muscles and facilitate the elimination of waste products.

Safety Considerations and Precautions

Before undergoing chiropractic adjustments, it is important for patients to be thoroughly screened for any pre-existing conditions that might contraindicate such treatments. Conditions such as osteoporosis, severe arthritis, and spinal cord abnormalities require careful consideration and alternative approaches to care.

It is vital to seek treatment from a licensed and experienced chiropractor. A professional chiropractic environment should adhere to all health and safety standards, ensuring that all equipment is properly sanitized and that each treatment plan is tailored to the individual needs of the patient, maximizing safety and effectiveness.

Debunking Myths and Addressing Concerns

There are many misconceptions surrounding chiropractic care, particularly regarding the release of toxins. It is important to understand that while the body may experience a natural response to the adjustment that involves the temporary increase in elimination of waste products, this is not the release of harmful toxins but rather a part of the body’s normal physiological response to healing.

While chiropractic care is safe for most people, it is not devoid of risks. It is important for potential patients to discuss their health history with a chiropractor to understand the risks and benefits specific to their condition. The benefits of chiropractic care such as improved mobility, pain relief, and enhanced overall health are well-documented, but understanding and mitigating any potential risks is crucial for achieving optimal health outcomes.

Summary of Key Findings

Chiropractic adjustments can offer numerous benefits, from pain relief to improved mobility. Understanding the natural detoxification process that follows can help you embrace the full spectrum of benefits that chiropractic care offers. By combining adjustments with a healthy lifestyle and proper hydration, you can support your body’s innate ability to heal and thrive.

Shockwave therapy has emerged as a promising treatment option for various musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Understanding its definition, historical context, and evolution provides valuable insight into its efficacy and applications.

What is shockwave therapy? Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing and alleviate pain in musculoskeletal tissues. These high-energy pulses are applied directly to the affected area, triggering a cascade of biological responses that promote tissue regeneration and repair. This non-invasive treatment modality has gained popularity for its ability to address conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, and calcific tendonitis, offering patients an alternative to surgery or medication.

The roots of shockwave therapy can be traced back to the 1960s, when researchers began exploring the use of acoustic waves for medical purposes. Initially developed to break down kidney stones non-invasively, shockwave technology gradually found its way into orthopedic and sports medicine. The early applications focused primarily on lithotripsy, but as the understanding of shockwave mechanics deepened, its therapeutic potential in treating soft tissue injuries became evident.

Evolution of Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy, including extracorporeal shockwave therapy, has advanced significantly in technology and treatment protocols. With improved precision and efficacy in focused and radial shockwave devices, it’s tailored to individual patient needs. Research explores new applications like wound healing and erectile dysfunction, positioning shockwave therapy as integral in modern rehabilitation and pain management.

How Shockwave Therapy Works

Mechanism of Action

Shockwave therapy operates on the principle of acoustic waves transmitting energy to targeted tissues. It utilizes high-energy pulses, promoting healing and pain relief in musculoskeletal structures.

When these waves interact with the body, they induce a cascade of biological responses that helps healing process, pain relief, and stimulate blood flow in musculoskeletal tissues. The mechanical force generated by shockwaves stimulates cellular activity, increasing blood circulation and triggering the release of growth factors, facilitating tissue repair. Understanding how shockwave therapy works is essential to grasp its efficacy and mechanisms of action.

Types of Shockwaves

Radial Shockwaves

Radial shockwaves spread energy outward from the device, treating larger areas and superficial musculoskeletal conditions such as tendinopathies and trigger points. These devices offer versatility in adjusting treatment depth and intensity to meet diverse patient needs. Moreover, radial shockwave therapy, including extracorporeal shock wave therapy, has been found to enhance blood flow in treated tissues, aiding the healing process.

Focused Shockwaves

Focused shockwaves are a targeted treatment method for conditions like plantar fasciitis, tendon issues, and bone fractures. By concentrating energy at precise locations, they optimize therapy while minimizing impact on surrounding tissues.

Scientific Principles Behind the Therapy

Shockwave therapy utilizes acoustic waves to stimulate cellular responses in the body, triggering the release of growth factors, enhancing tissue repair mechanisms, and modulating inflammation. Additionally, it promotes angiogenesis, forming new blood vessels that accelerate healing by improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to injured tissues. These principles make shockwave therapy a non-invasive and effective treatment option for diverse musculoskeletal conditions.

Advantages and Benefits of Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy offers numerous advantages for treating musculoskeletal conditions. From its non-invasive nature to its ability to reduce pain and speed up recovery, it’s become a popular treatment option.

Non-Invasive Nature

Shockwave therapy stands out for being non-invasive. Unlike surgery, it doesn’t require incisions or anesthesia. Patients can undergo treatment as outpatients and return to normal activities quickly, reducing the risk of complications.

Speed of Recovery

Shockwave therapy accelerates healing by stimulating cellular responses and tissue regeneration. Patients often experience pain relief and improved function after just a few sessions. This faster recovery time means less downtime and a quicker return to daily life.

Minimal Side Effects

Shockwave therapy offers a safer alternative to surgery and medication, with minimal side effects like temporary discomfort or soreness. Unlike traditional treatments, it poses fewer risks and is well-tolerated, making it an attractive option for managing musculoskeletal issues.

What is shockwave therapy and how does it work? These benefits make shockwave therapy an appealing choice for patients seeking effective, low-risk treatment options for their musculoskeletal conditions.

Understanding the Treatment Process

Navigating the treatment process of shockwave therapy involves understanding key aspects such as session duration, frequency of sessions, and pre and post-treatment recommendations. By adhering to these guidelines, patients can optimize the effectiveness of their treatment and enhance their overall recovery experience.

Session Duration

The duration of a shockwave therapy session typically varies depending on the specific condition being treated and the protocol established by the healthcare provider. On average, a single session of shockwave therapy lasts between 15 to 30 minutes.

During this time, the healthcare provider administers the shockwave therapy using a handheld device, targeting the affected area with precise application techniques. While the treatment is relatively brief, patients may undergo multiple sessions over a prescribed period to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Frequency of Sessions

The frequency of shockwave therapy sessions is determined by several factors, including the severity of the condition, the individual’s response to treatment, and the clinician’s recommendations. In most cases, patients undergo shockwave therapy sessions once a week for a series of several weeks, often in conjunction with complementary physical therapy sessions. This interval allows the body to respond to the treatment and initiate healing between sessions. As patients progress through their treatment plan, the frequency of sessions may be adjusted based on their clinical progress and therapeutic goals.

Pre and Post-Treatment Recommendations

Before shockwave therapy, patients should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs and blood thinners, stay hydrated, and refrain from intense physical activity. After treatment, resting, avoiding strenuous activities, applying ice packs, and gentle stretching can help reduce soreness and aid recovery.

Choosing the Right Provider

Selecting the right provider for shockwave therapy is crucial to ensuring optimal treatment outcomes and a positive patient experience, especially when considering sports medicine specialists. Several factors contribute to identifying a reputable and skilled provider, including accreditation and certification, patient reviews and testimonials, and consultation and evaluation. When seeking shockwave treatment, it’s essential to consider the provider’s accreditation and certification.

Accreditation and Certification

When choosing a shockwave therapy provider, ensure they’re accredited and certified. Look for practitioners trained and certified in administering shockwave therapy from recognized institutions. Accredited providers follow strict standards and undergo thorough training for safe and effective treatments, instilling confidence in their expertise.

Neck and shoulder pain are among the most common complaints related to musculoskeletal issues. Whether from sitting hunched over a computer for hours, lifting heavy objects, or even just from stress, these aches and pains can significantly impact our daily lives. In fact, according to the Global Burden of Disease Study, neck pain is the fourth leading cause of disability worldwide, making it a common issue many people grapple with.

Chiropractors play a critical role in addressing these discomforts. They specialize in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions, often using manual adjustment techniques to realign the body and promote healing. Their holistic approach not only alleviates pain but also enhances overall well-being. This blog post will delve into an in-depth guide on chiropractic solutions for neck and shoulder pain, providing valuable insights into how these professionals can help you lead a more comfortable, pain-free life.

Understanding Neck and Shoulder Pain

The neck and shoulder region is a complex network of bones, muscles, and nerves. The neck, or cervical spine, comprises seven small vertebrae and supports the total weight of your head. It’s incredibly flexible, allowing the head to move in nearly every direction. The shoulder, on the other hand, is the most mobile joint in the body. It’s composed of three main bones: the clavicle (collarbone), the scapula (shoulder blade), and the humerus (upper arm bone), all working together to enable a wide range of movement.

However, this flexibility and mobility have a downside: vulnerability to injury and pain. Discomfort in these areas can stem from various sources, including physical injury, disease, and lifestyle factors. Common causes include poor posture, repetitive stress injuries, and muscular imbalances. Let’s investigate these causes to understand how they contribute to neck and shoulder pain.

Poor Posture

Poor posture is one of the leading contributors to neck and shoulder pain. When we slouch or hunch over, it strains the muscles and ligaments in our neck and shoulders. Over time, this can lead to chronic pain and even long-term damage.

Repetitive Stress Injuries

Repetitive stress injuries occur when we repeatedly perform the same motions, causing wear and tear on our muscles and joints. It is common in jobs that require constant typing or manual labor. These injuries can result in persistent neck and shoulder discomfort if not properly managed.

Muscular Imbalances

Muscular imbalances refer to uneven strength or flexibility between opposing muscle groups. For instance, if your chest muscles are stronger than your back muscles, it can pull your shoulders forward, causing discomfort. Addressing these imbalances through targeted exercises can help alleviate neck and shoulder pain.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care provides a unique, holistic approach to pain management. Chiropractic care often provides long-lasting relief by focusing on the root cause of discomfort instead of just treating symptoms. This method considers various health factors, including lifestyle choices, environment, and genetics. The goal is to maintain optimal health naturally to help the body resist disease. It comprehensively views the human body as an interconnected and interdependent system.

In addition to the holistic approach, chiropractic care utilizes non-invasive techniques for pain relief. These include spinal adjustments, soft tissue manipulation, and therapeutic exercises. Each technique is designed to restore function, improve mobility, and alleviate pain without using drugs or surgery. They offer a safer alternative for people who prefer natural, drug-free treatments. Plus, these techniques can be customized to each person’s unique needs, offering personalized care.

How Chiropractors Assess Pain

Assessing pain in chiropractic care begins with an initial consultation and examination. The chiropractor will ask about your medical history, lifestyle, and current symptoms during this session. This information is crucial to understand the context of your pain and provide an accurate diagnosis. The chiropractor will also perform a physical exam to assess your posture, spinal alignment, and mobility.

Following the initial consultation, chiropractors use various diagnostic tools to identify the source of your pain. These may include X-rays, MRI scans, and a range of motion tests. These tools provide detailed images of your spine and joints, helping the chiropractor identify any structural issues causing your pain. Range of motion tests, on the other hand, measure your flexibility and mobility, providing additional insights into your condition.

Tailored Treatment Plans

Once they’ve assessed your pain, chiropractors develop tailored treatment plans based on their findings. This personalized approach ensures that every patient receives the most effective care. Adjustments aim to realign the spine, improve nerve function, and relieve pain and discomfort. This personalized approach ensures you receive the most effective care for your needs.

In addition to personalized adjustments, chiropractors may use integrative therapies for a more comprehensive treatment. These could include acupuncture, massage therapy, and lifestyle modifications. Acupuncture can help manage pain and promote healing, while massage therapy can relieve muscle tension and improve circulation. Lifestyle modifications, such as changes in diet or exercise habits, can further enhance your health and well-being.

Chiropractic Techniques for Neck Pain

When it comes to neck pain, chiropractors often perform cervical adjustments. These involve gentle manipulations of the neck region to restore alignment and reduce pain. Cervical adjustments can alleviate tension, improve mobility, and enhance overall neck function. They’re a safe and effective way to address neck pain.

Chiropractors also recommend mobilization exercises to improve flexibility in the neck. These exercises, including neck stretches and strengthening routines, can help maintain a healthy range of motion. Regularly performing these exercises can strengthen neck muscles and prevent future pain or injury. It’s a proactive approach to maintaining neck health.

Chiropractic Techniques for Shoulder Pain

For shoulder pain, chiropractors may perform adjustments on the glenohumeral joint. This ball-and-socket joint allows for a wide range of motion in the shoulder. Adjustments can correct any misalignments, reduce pain, and restore function. It’s a targeted approach to addressing shoulder pain.

Finally, chiropractors often recommend rotator cuff exercises to improve shoulder stability. These exercises, including stretches and strengthening routines, work to enhance the strength and flexibility of the rotator cuff muscles. Patients can achieve better shoulder stability and decrease their risk of future shoulder issues by improving these factors.

Summary: Embracing a Pain-Free Life

Chiropractic care offers a practical and holistic approach to managing neck and shoulder pain. With a focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of discomfort rather than just treating symptoms, it presents a viable solution for long-term pain relief. Personalized treatment plans allow for targeted and efficient care, improving overall well-being.

Seeking professional help for persistent pain is crucial for maintaining health and quality of life. Chiropractic solutions aim to alleviate immediate pain and prevent future occurrences through comprehensive care strategies. It is a worthwhile consideration for anyone experiencing ongoing neck or shoulder pain.

We get it. You pay a lot of money for your health insurance, and you want to use your benefits. Here are 3 important things to know before you decide who to trust with your health.

1. Health insurance companies do not care about your health.

This may be difficult to absorb, but unfortunately it’s true. Health insurance companies care about saving money and cutting costs. They put limits on treatment options, and put arbitrary road blocks in place to deny care and save a buck. This is a big problem when you have a health issue you are expecting to be covered.

2. Health insurance companies continue to undercut their doctors.

Would you show up to work tomorrow if your boss told you they were getting a 20% pay cut? The obvious answer is NO. Every year doctors continue to get reimbursed less from insurance companies. The best doctors are leaving the insurance networks everyday, meaning they are “out of network” providers. Good doctors providing a valuable service no longer see a need to be involved with insurance networks. The doctors that stick around in the insurance networks are the ones willing to be paid less to do the job. In the near future, only mediocre doctors will still be “In Network” providers. The best doctors in the world will get away from working with insurances altogether, while continuing to provide massive value to their patients.

3. The cost of healthcare continues to go up for patients.

Every year, having a health insurance plan gets more expensive. The plans cover less, the monthly premiums are going up, and deductibles continue to rise. Nowadays, most people typically have to pay thousands of dollars before health insurance will cover any portion of care. Does it make sense that you have to pay more, get less coverage for your health needs, and your doctors get paid less also? It’s easy to see who is actually benefiting from this current model.

Here’s the truth:

It’s easy to find doctors who will take your insurance. It’s very difficult to find doctors who can fix your pain and injuries.

We encourage people to spend considerable time researching doctors that are skilled and specialized, instead of simply finding someone who takes their insurance. At the end of the day, there is nothing more expensive than treatment that doesn’t fix your problem. The cheaper solution is never the better solution when it comes to your health. Take the time to find a great doctor.

Our doctors at Apollo Soft Tissue and Spine are soft tissue specialists and experts with biomechanics. In fact, Dr. Drew Ruebbelke and Dr. John Appleman are 2 of only 3 doctors in Denver certified to fix muscle adhesion and nerve entrapments.

We deliver a complete and accurate diagnosis better than anyone else. This means better results and a happier life for you. At Apollo, we care about your health. If you or anyone your know is struggling with pain or nagging injuries, we would be happy to help.

Auto accidents are physically, mentally, and emotionally damaging. You are extremely lucky if you walk away with no major injuries. Physically, auto accidents can wreak havoc on your musculoskeletal (muscles, nerves, and joints) system. Even if you feel okay after the accident, you should get evaluated by a doctor within a few weeks. Pain can often take several days, or even weeks to begin after an auto accident.

Car accidents can damage and overload the muscles, nerves, and joints of your spine. This can lead to a plethora of problems down the road, including scar tissue, early arthritis of your joints, chronic headaches, chronic pain, etc.

Sometimes the damage from an auto accident cannot be reversed. The only way to tell is for an expert to take a look earlier, rather than later. This will allow for a better, faster recovery, not to mention clarity and peace of mind.

Fortunately, seeing an expert to diagnose and treat any problem that may have developed from the accident can help slow down wear and tear processes in your joints, as well as resolve pain. Seeing a highly trained soft tissue specialist is the safest route to healing after an auto accident(even a light fender bender).

At Apollo Soft Tissue and Spine, our soft tissue specialists are chiropractors, and experts with diagnosis and treatment of muscle, nerve, and joint problems. We see people who have been in auto accidents all the time, and are dedicated to helping our patients live pain free. If you or anyone you know is suffering from pain or injury due to an auto accident, we can help.

Let’s face it, pain and injuries from playing sports or living an active life are inevitable. So how do you fix your pain and injuries for good, and continue the activities you love?

The first step is to pay close attention to how long you have been feeling symptoms after the injury. This provides insight into how much better your injury will get on its own, or if you will need expert help. If after a couple days you don’t feel better, it’s time to see someone.

The longer your symptoms stick around, the less likely it is that your injury will fully heal on its own. If left untreated, nagging injuries can continue to get worse, and lead to chronic (long standing) problems. This is a big problem because chronic muscle, nerve, and joint issues put you on the fast track to early arthritis and degeneration.

So if it’s time to see someone, who do you look to for help?

Your first step is to search for a conservative care provider. Someone who can provide safe, effective, and lasting treatments with very little side effects. Conservative care providers most commonly include chiropractors and physical therapists. Even more specifically, find a musculoskeletal expert trained in biomechanics and human movement. These doctors are the most certified to handle muscle, nerve, and joint problems. Integrative Diagnosis providers in your town are the most qualified to help with your pain and sports injury.

Injuries are predictable, preventable, and identifiable by measuring your flexibility and strength. Seeing a doctor certified to do this is imperative for your recovery. If you feel any symptoms (tightness or tension, weakness, burning, tingling, numbness, shooting pain, sharp pain, aches) it is past the point where you can fix the injury on your own.

Once an injury happens, the likelihood of re-injury goes up substantially. If left untreated, your problem will only get worse over time. If not taken seriously, invasive surgeries could end up being the only option for you. Surgeries have more risks and should be avoided if possible. The earlier you get your injuries looked at, the better the chances of the problem being fixed.

At Apollo Soft Tissue and Spine, our chiropractors are soft tissue specialists and biomechanics experts. We diagnose and effectively treat complex, difficult problems other doctors and therapists can’t resolve. Our doctors are 2 of only 3 Integrative Diagnosis providers in Denver certified to fix your pain and injuries. We are here to help when you need it.

For results with your pain and injuries, call the Apollo soft tissue specialists today at (720) 795-4873.

Why do you feel pain? This is a common question we can get in the office, and a good one.

Our bodies are intelligent. Pain is our body’s warning system, and it is an indicator of inflammation and damage. Pain shows up to prevent us from ignoring the problem any longer.

Importantly, pain also serves to unload, or take pressure off the damaged area, so that we don’t make any bad choices that could further damage the underlying problem.

Often times, pain is confusing, because it isn’t specific. It doesn’t tell us exactly WHAT the problem is, and it doesn’t tell us exactly W

HERE the problem is.

This is very similar to the check engine light on the dashboard of your car. When the light comes on, you know there’s a problem. But you don’t know what or where the problem is. We all understand that in order to have the problem resolved, we have to take our car to a mechanic.

What happens if you don’t? What happens if you continue to drive your car and ignore the check engine light? You will damage your car! This means more money out of your pocket, bigger problems down the road, and your car simply won’t last as long.

Chronic Low back or Neck pain

If you’re reading this, you most likely suffer from some sort of chronic low back or neck pain. Ask yourself these following questions to help solve the problem:

Is your pain worse in the morning?

Does the pain get better after waking up and moving around?

Have you had multiple or previous episodes of moderate to severe pain?

Does the pain usually last 2-10 days before going away?

Trouble sitting or standing prolonged periods of time?

Are movements “guarded/protected” or noticing decreased range of motion?

If you answered “yes” to a majority or all of these questions, you most likely are suffering from a disc injury whether you have been diagnosed with it or not. Internal Disc Derangement (IDD) accounts for upwards of 40% of all low back pain and the majority of neck pain!

Disc injuries are often made worse by the presence of adhesion. Adhesion is the most common cause of pain and decreased range of motion in the body. Adhesion acts like glue in muscles and restricts movement. Restricted motion causes more load on injured discs, leading to more pain and long term problems such as disc bulging or disc herniation.

The good news is that a large majority of disc injuries do not require surgery if you seek out an expert to help restore full range of motion and take pressure off of the disc. Disc injuries respond well to conservative management and treatment. By fixing and removing adhesion, range of motion is restored and discs are essentially “decompressed” and unloaded. Leaving you with little to no pain and able to return to regular, daily activity.

We are 2 of only 3 providers in the Denver Metro Area certified to provide you with a proper diagnosis and provide the treatment your neck or back problem needs, even if other practitioners have missed it. Our treatment has helped many people looking for answers to their pain. We have helped patients prevent surgery and those still suffering with pain after surgery. If you answered “yes” to most or all of the questions above, chances are we can help! Call Apollo today at 720-593-2047.
